Storytelling for Mental Health and Resilience

Laurel frequently delivers keynotes and lectures at universities, global conferences, national and international associations of healthcare leaders, academic medical centers, advocacy organizations, national meetings and at other large gatherings in healthcare and beyond. Her talks often focus on the power of more authentic communication to improve well-being and resilience, while reducing burnout in healthcare and other high stakes fields. Recent keynotes have included the main TED Conference, the American Medical Association, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, The Chautauqua Institute, Apple, SXSW, dozens of state hospital and professional association annual meetings, and many more.

Testimonials

  • “Thank you for your incredible keynote and breakout session at our Wellness Weekend. It was moving, wise, and deeply human. It has lingered with me through the weekend. I am looking at my own childhood grief with new eyes. It was such a pleasure to meet you in person and have the chance to learn from you. Your approach to story and advocacy made the process feel accessible and inviting, so much so that I have found myself jotting down scenes and snippets… You’ve given me both inspiration and a new sense of possibility.”

    – Amanda L. Bauer DO, Regional Medical Director, Acute Care Services, Permanente Medicine Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group

  • “Laurel's talk was all that one would hope for it to be, insightful, well-informed, authentically engaging and sincere. Her great humanitarian heart and intellect were equally represented in a way that allowed the audience to forget that they were at a talking event and instead feel the good fortune of having had a uniquely talented and generous soul share their life's story and work with them.”

    - Dirk A. Frater MD, Director at E. Barrow Medical Group

  • “On behalf of the Library Council, I want to thank you for your thoughtful, vibrant moderation of Tuesday’s event. Your conversation was a perfect blend of intellect, humor, and heart—beautifully guided by your own reflections and warmth. The way you connected your personal story to the cause we’re supporting made the program especially meaningful for all of us.”

    - Beth Michelson, President, The Council of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles
